Hypnotherapy is a process where the client is guided into a very relaxed state of consciousness that allows for direct communication with the subconscious mind. The Hypnotherapist can assist the client in making changes at the deep subconscious level needed for permanent transformation. It simply feels like a deep meditation where the client is awake and conscious at all times, and fully participates in the session.
Hypnotherapy is a process where the client achieves an altered state of consciousness through different relaxation techniques (DELTA brain wave state). Allowing direct communication with the subconscious mind. In this state of higher suggestibility the therapist can help make deep and permanent changes that the client desires.
Because of the depth of relaxation you are able to obtain during Hypnosis, you can make permanent changes at a deep subconscious level of the mind. The brain can not tell the difference between what it has actually seen and what your Hypnotherapist will help co-create with you in your subconscious mind.
At this deep state you can heal and alter behaviours that no longer serve your best self, such as anxiety, stress reduction, sleep problems, self esteem issues, chronic pain, addictions, fears and phobias, weight loss, fertility, pregnancy and birth and so much more. Everything becomes possible!
Hypnosis was officially recognised for its therapeutic value from the British Medical Association in 1955 and the American Medical Association since 1958. It is used worldwide today in many different applications from reducing chronic pain to alleviating symptoms of PTSD and everything in between.
However, it is imperative that you make sure you are working with a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist that you feel comfortable with. There is a code of ethics all qualified practitioners adhere to.
Absolutely not. A hypnotherapy Session is a Co-creation between the Client and the Hypnotherapist where the client is fully conscious throughout the entire session. The client has a dual awareness to both what is happening in the room, and their internal experience. At no point will you do or say anything you would not normally say or do, nothing that will happen is a session that you are not fully aware of. Like a guided meditation, you can speak, think, listen and participate at all times during a session and even simply open your eyes to end the session if you choose.
Some people worry that they will be unable to relax enough to be hypnotized. There are many different techniques a Hypnotherapist can use to assist a client into a deep state of relaxation. There are also ways a Hypnotherapist can tell the depth of relaxation that is occurring.
However, no one can be hypnotized against their will. Hypnotherapy is about teamwork. It is as much about the willingness of the client to be guided, as it is about the skill of the Hypnotherapist. If If you are concerned, then ask your Therapist for a non interactive relaxation session to begin with, helping you get use to the process.
Hypnosis is not sleep. Nothing strange happens in Hypnosis, it is simply allowing yourself to be guided into a deeply relaxed state of altered consciousness. You will have dual awareness at all times, being able to actively participate in the session, as well as being conscious of your internal experience.
In fact some people think that they have not been hypnotized in a session because they were expecting something wild and wonderful to happen to them, rather that the progressive relaxation that occurs. Most people find Hypnotherapy to be relaxing.
It really depends on the clients area of interest. An exploration into Spiritual Hypnosis could be a single session, where as issue focused sessions could be between 3 to 6 sessions. Some clients like to start with a progressive relaxation, non interactive session to ease themselves into the Hypnotherapy process, and we can accommodate everybody's comfort zone.
